BlahRoma
Woke up at 7. Stumbled around for a while and checked email. I obviously didn't do too well in corps since they gave me a supplementary exam. Showered with difficulty due to the shower for people with only two dimensions haha. Our breakfast of pastries was delivered to our door and made for a pleasant start to the day. We then headed out to termini station where we found ATMs to be a most elusive beast. I also risked appearing to be incontinent by purchasing what I sincerely hope were sanitary pads from a pharmacy. We found our train line, and so did about a million others. In 30+ degree heat. Eventually we pushed to the front and made it onto a train which made all complaints about overcrowding on connex irrelevant.
Lost on in the Vatican
Go to basillica with no queues only to decide we better find museum
Walk long way back to find museum
Think we've missed the big god and Adam thong coz the Sistine chapel appears to be huge. Find it, act like rebels and take photos
Get back to basillica, massive queue. Decide to get lunch.
Find pasta place recommended by lonely planet. Prices of €4 widely misleading. Try €7.
Back to basillica. It is absolutely awe insipring. Holy watered my necklace and self.
Decide to train to Trevi fountain. See a protest and riot police. Decide to give wide berth.
Arrive at trevi and I fall in love. Tashi and I do the coin thing and contemplate jumping in as it's early afternoon and mid thirties. After seeing a man yell at someone for dangling their feet in, this plan is quickly discarded.
Now to the colosseum. Walk past ruins of ancient Rome. It is jarring to see such relics absorbed into the modern roman landscape with buses and cars just whizzing around them and security cameras watching them.
Even though our ticket said 4 and we were cutting it fine, we decided that gelati were in order.
When we arrive at the colosseum it seems strangely devoid of ticket mongers and other predatory creatures. Unperturbed we circled the building looking for a queue. As we come closer to rejoining our starting point we realize it looks eerily empty inside. Reasoning that a spot tashi had previously thought was the entrance would be the best place to accost someone for help. Turns out Michelle Obama was making a visit and the whole thing had been shut completely to the public since 3 pm. Called the ticket people who reissued for tomorrow so we will head there first thing before meeting Jenna.
After a long while twisting the map in every conceivable direction we eventually found our way back to the hotel toliterally put our feet up on the walls. Removal of shoes has revealed some seriously fashionable foot tanlines.
